Just 31% of rivers covered by water framework Directive
Only a third of rivers in England and Wales have been designated for improvement under the water framework Directive, it emerged at a conference in London in July. Despite promises of further designations, campaigners and officials fear that the government may drag its heels to reduce the cost.
