Wrangling continues over sewage pollution in Northern Ireland

Many of Northern Ireland’s sewage works continue to breach their discharge limits despite recent performance improvements, according to the latest official statistics. Ministers’ efforts to prevent non-compliance with EU standards becoming an obstacle to housebuilding have now been challenged by a legal opinion from a leading barrister which brands their policy "unlawful" and "irrational".
