Agency slashes check monitoring of industrial emissions

The Environment Agency has cut the level of independent check monitoring of industrial sites’ emissions by three-quarters over the last four years. The move raises concerns that the Agency may be going too far in reducing its presence on the ground - not least because the regulator’s own operator monitoring assessment (OMA) scheme suggests that almost 40% of sites do not have satisfactory monitoring procedures in place.
