Climate summit leaves chink of light on post-2012 commitments

A UN summit on climate change in December underlined the deep divisions within the international community over future controls greenhouse gas emissions after the Kyoto Protocol’s main provisions expire in 2012. The only glimmer of light was an agreement that government representatives will hold a non-binding discussion on future policies in May.
