MCERTS standards for effluent monitoring

The Environment Agency has published two revised standards relating to monitoring of effluent discharges from industrial sites under its monitoring certification (MCERTS) scheme.1,2

MCERTS is designed to improve the quality of monitoring data gathered to ensure regulatory compliance. The scheme covers the certification of instruments, the competency certification of personnel, the accreditation of laboratories and on-site inspections.

The changes include clarifications on the responsibilities of assessors who work for the MCERTS inspection body and a number of revisions to the requirements on consent holders for record keeping.
