Export deal helps taxpayers avoid Britannia Zinc waste liabilities

Thousands of tonnes of abandoned metal oxide wastes are to be shipped to Germany for recovery, following a successful conclusion to two years of painstaking negotiations concerning the former Britannia Zinc works in Avonmouth. The Environment Agency estimates that disposal to landfill would have cost the public purse some £25 million.
