DEFRA sets out belated plans on implementing noise Directive

Plans to map all major sources of environmental noise from roads, railways, airports and industrial sites in the UK and take action to reduce noise "if necessary" under the environmental noise Directive have been published by the Environment Department.1 DEFRA has made a late start, missing the implementation deadline, with the first round of noise maps due in mid-2007.
