No new money for ‘essential’ research on nanotechnology risks

The Government has produced a mixed response to last year’s report on nanotechnology by two premier scientific bodies. It will be working to discourage discharges of waste nanoparticles and nanotubes into the environment and their deliberate release in "nanoremediation" projects - but there are no new funds for research on the health and environmental implications of nanotechnology, nor any prospect of early action to close the regulatory gaps on use of nanoparticles.1
