Quarter of landfill permit applications refused
M ore than a quarter of the first 133 landfill permit applications for non-hazardous waste sites have been refused, according to Environment Agency figures, with groundwater risks posing the principal problems. The Agency’s interpretation of the landfill Directive looks set to be challenged over the coming months, with the majority of refused permits already subject to appeals.
