Landfill ban on tyres brought forward to July 2006

The ban on landfilling tyres looks set to apply to all landfills from July 2006 rather than October 2007 because the tyre industry is confident that compliance can be achieved by what it always regarded as the official deadline. Meanwhile, a tyre remoulder has claimed that the Government's refusal to allow remoulders to qualify for the 80% rebate under the climate change levy is giving manufacturers of new tyres an unfair advantage.
