DEFRA backs voluntary approach to regulation of timber imports
The Government is backing the European Commission's plans for a voluntary approach to timber import licensing, according to a consultation paper issued by the Environment Department (DEFRA) in May.1 But some companies and environmental groups want a mandatory ban on the importation of illegally logged timber.
