Complaints had been made from the public that large amounts of mixed waste had been deposited at various locations in the Bridgend area. The local authority found it to contain metal cabinets and shop counters that they traced to a recent shop refurbishment at a BHS branch in Cardiff.
The company was fined £2,000 on each of two charges of failing in their duty of care to prevent the illegal deposit of the waste and of failing to provide waste transfer notes, both breaches of section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
A local man also pleaded guilty to his part in the illegal disposal of the shop fittings and is awaiting sentencing.
