Sales data on alkyl phenols and APEs undermine voluntary agreement

The Chemicals Stakeholder Forum has heard that sales of toxic alkyl phenols increased in some sectors in 2003 and 2004, despite an industry voluntary agreement to phase them out. The industry figures, painting a confusing picture of sales trends, will not help the cause of voluntary agreements as a means of reducing the risks posed by hazardous chemicals.
