US signs up to Asia-Pacific climate pact

The USA has joined five major Asia-Pacific nations in a deal to promote the uptake of less carbon-intensive energy sources - but the agreement is non-binding and contains no targets for emissions reduction. Meanwhile, President Bush has signed a new Energy Act offering tax breaks for biofuels, domestic oil and gas production, nuclear power, and energy efficiency measures.
