Wildlife at risk from metal levels in lakes
Levels of toxic metals in lake sediments are increasing across Britain despite reductions in atmospheric emissions, claims a study for the Environment Department (DEFRA).1 The levels are high enough to affect invertebrates - posing problems for compliance with the water framework Directive.
