REACH proposal passes major hurdle
Germany's newly elected political leaders stuck a spanner in the works for the UK Presidency in November by demanding - and getting - a delay in political agreement on the proposed REACH Regulation on chemicals. UK officials vowed to press for a deal by the end of the year, and were boosted when the European Parliament passed the proposal on first reading.
