Groundwater Directive's cost impacts on industry, farmers

The Government is aiming to eliminate any possibility of harmonised EU groundwater quality standards being set in future under the proposed Directive on groundwater protection - partly in order to save industry billions of pounds in remediation costs. It has also revealed that farmers are facing substantial additional costs to reduce nitrate leaching under the EU water framework Directive.
