Commission declares detergents agreement a 'success'

A five-year voluntary environmental programme agreed with the detergents industry was a success, the European Commission has claimed, even though targets to reduce detergents consumption and use of packaging were missed. But the Commission's consultative Consumer Committee said the industry's claims are "overstated, unsupported by evidence and indeed unbelievable."
