Momentum builds towards marine environment legislation
Britain's nature conservation agencies have stepped up the pressure for new laws to improve the management and protection of the marine environment. A major pilot study in the Irish Sea has established the feasibility of identifying marine habitats meriting conservation - and the agencies are now pressing for legislation to establish a system of marine spatial planning and a network of protected areas.
