Challenge of water framework Directive gets clearer in Scotland
The first detailed picture of how much the status of waters in the UK will need to be improved to meet environmental objectives laid down by the EU water framework Directive has emerged in a consultation report published by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in July.1 It shows that around half of Scotland's waters are at risk of failing to meet the Directive's objectives - far more than suggested by conventional pollution indicators alone.
