Measures to improve local environments take shape
Proposals for improving local environmental quality which were first mooted by the Environment Department (DEFRA) two years ago have been firmed up and extended in a further consultation paper.1 A range of new statutory powers for tackling fly-tipping, litter, abandoned vehicles, graffiti and other nuisances is proposed - along with other provisions on waste and contaminated land which DEFRA is hoping to squeeze into a pre-election environment Bill.
