Enforcement action at plastics firm
The Environment Agency has served an enforcement notice on Blaenau Plastics requiring it to review operating procedures after an unauthorised release from its Tanygrisiau works in Gwynedd. The incident occurred in June after plant maintenance resulted in a discharge of treated process cooling water containing detergent to a local watercourse. The spill was reported to the Agency by a member of the public. The Agency said that although the environmental impact was minimal, the company failed to manage treated process waters correctly and to inform the Agency of the incident, both of which are requirements under its integrated pollution control authorisation.
