George Wimpey fined £10,000

Developer Wimpey has been ordered to pay fines and costs of £11,600 after a sewer blockage led to sewage pouring into a tributary of the river Calder in Whalley. George Wimpey North West pleaded guilty to causing sewage effluent to enter the stream, contrary to sections 85(3)(a) and (6) of the Water Resources Act 1991, before Blackburn magistrates on 24 August.
