Agency issues rules on how MBT will contribute to landfill targets

A proportion of residues from mechanical/biological treatment (MBT) plants is likely to count as biodegradable municipal waste (BMW), according to an Environment Agency consultation paper.1 The decision could prevent local authorities from opting for MBT to meet their BMW targets, according to one of the authorities already committed to the technology.
