DEFRA to extend risk-based regulation under IPPC

The Environment Department (DEFRA) has published proposals to extend its risk assessment methodology to sites regulated by local authorities under integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC).1 The scheme will be used to help council officers decide the risk a site poses and how well managed it is. The result will decide how much regulatory oversight a site receives and how much the operator will pay in fees and charges.
