DEFRA blasted over 'cosmetic' shellfish water designations

The Environment Department (DEFRA) has designated 47 shellfish waters as "sensitive" under the 1991 EU Directive on urban wastewater treatment. The move has been described as "cosmetic" and "purely a paper exercise" by environmental lawyer Peter Scott.
