Environmental liability Directive weakened in Council deal

Agreement on the Directive on environmental liability was secured at the EU Environment Council on 13 June. If the European Parliament agrees, there will be no mandatory requirements for businesses to hold financial security, and Member States will have discretion to limit polluters' liability and determine the extent to which the Directive covers damage to nationally protected wildlife sites.
