EIC stirs up dispute over IPPC upgrading deadlines

Regulators in the UK are aiming to issue integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) permits to all installations by 2007 - but the European Commission is adopting a tougher interpretation which would require existing plants to be using the "best available techniques" (BAT) by that date. The Environmental Industries Commission fears that the UK's approach could undermine the market for suppliers of clean technologies.
