Decision looms for London low emission zone

Excluding the most polluting buses, lorries and coaches from the whole of Greater London could offer very significant air quality benefits, according to a major feasibility study.1 A low emission zone could not be implemented before 2007 - too late to help local authorities meet their air quality objectives for 2005, but in time to help meet tougher statutory EU standards in 2010.
