Offshore wind to burgeon despite uncertain environmental impacts

Up to 6GW of offshore wind capacity is expected to be delivered by 2010 in by far the most ambitious expansion of renewable energy in the UK, announced by the Government on 14 July. However, a strategic environmental assessment has warned of "considerable uncertainty" about the cumulative environmental impacts of the developments, and doubts also remain about who will pay for an offshore electricity grid.
