Marine wildlife habitats to gain protection after Greenpeace victory

A consultation on extending protection to important offshore wildlife habitats and bird populations out to 200 nautical miles was launched by the Environment Department in August, almost four years after the High Court ruled that the Government had erred in limiting the application of the 1992 EU habitats Directive to within the 12-mile territorial limit.1
