Relaxation of IPPC rules for sewage works, waste processes

A delay of more than two years in bringing sewage treatment works under the integrated pollution prevention and control regime in England and Wales was proposed by an Environment Department consultation paper issued on 18 September.1 The move will benefit other waste treatment processes - and DEFRA is also proposing to relieve many non-landfill waste management activities of existing "fit and proper person" requirements.
