Paint firm fined over salmon-pink river

Blackburn-based Steyport has been fined £5,000 after polluting a tributary of the river Darwen with pink emulsion paint. The company pleaded guilty to causing polluting matter to enter the watercourse before Blackburn magistrates on 18 August, contrary to section 85(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991.
