Water companies warn of impending nitrate crisis

Water companies have warned of an "exponential rise" in the number of schemes for removing nitrate from drinking water over the next few years as nitrate levels in groundwater continue to rise. The schemes will cost the industry "hundreds of millions" in capital investment and significantly reduce water resources, according to Water UK.
