Survey confirms heavy investment in landfill gas controls
Landfill gas flaring capacity in the UK has increased by 50% over the past five years, according to a survey drawn up to improve official data on methane emissions from landfills. The study concludes that emissions from the sector have fallen by around two-thirds since 1990 - but the estimates are subject to high uncertainty and assume that much methane is oxidised in landfill caps before reaching the atmosphere.
