Treasury happy to miss EU biofuels targets
Treasury Minister John Healey has told a parliamentary inquiry that indicative EU targets for the use of biofuels "may not necessarily be appropriate to the UK" - and that the higher duty differential sought by the biofuels industry would be "patently absurd". However, he flagged up alternatives such as capital grants and a mandatory obligation to blend biofuels. Meanwhile, concern is growing that imports could undercut the fledgling UK biofuels industry.
