UK out of kilter with Commission over IPPC upgrading deadline

The Government and the Environment Agency have confirmed their opposition to the European Commission's view that all sites regulated under integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) must be upgraded to "best available techniques" by October 2007. Meanwhile, the Agency is lobbying for all sewage treatment works to come under the regime.
