Anaerobic digestion is composting as well as recovery, says DEFRA

Proposals to reclassify anaerobic digestion as partly a composting as well as an energy recovery process have been issued by the Environment Department.1 The changes will allow a proportion of the household waste processed by anaerobic digestion to count towards the statutory recycling/composting targets set for local authorities in 2005/06.
