Planning decisions on landfills

Waste industry complaints about the difficulty of winning planning decisions have not been borne out by statistics released by Planning Minister Keith Hill.1

The statistics show the fate of planning applications relating to landfills for 2002/03. Overall, only 10% of applications were refused.

The highest refusal rate was for new sites, with 22% being refused. Very few other types of application, including expansion of existing sites, were refused.
