Yorkshire Water has won the unenviable distinction of becoming the first of the newly privatised water companies to be prosecuted successfully by the National Rivers Authority. The company was fined £1,000 for allowing a spillage of 100 gallons of polyelectrolyte from a water treatment works last September. The NRA is now taking proceedings against Northumbrian Water over a hypochlorite leak from its Tunstall treatment works.
