NFFO subsidy boosts renewables as generation costs tumble

The total amount of energy produced by renewable sources supported by the non-fossil fuel obligation (NFFO) should more than double under the latest round of subsidies announced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Scottish Office. The price of energy from most renewable technologies - especially wind power - has fallen significantly. However, the DTI has backpedalled in its support for more expensive demonstration projects, and only three biomass gasification schemes have won subsidy.
