Ministers under fire over abolition of farm waste grants
The Government was strongly criticised for scrapping grants to farmers for improving facilities for animal waste and silage liquor during debates in both Houses of Parliament on 19 January. Agriculture Minister Michael Jack revealed in the Commons that the decision was taken without consultation with the National Rivers Authority (NRA), while his counterpart in the Lords let slip the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture is only now commissioning a study of current water pollution risks from farms.
