RCEP report on freshwater quality gets negative response

The Government has finally published its response to the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution's report on freshwater quality after almost three years.1 It claims to have accepted "many" of the RCEP's recommendations - but in fact it has rejected almost all of those requiring policy advances. Effluent charges, water quality objectives, oil and chemical stores and pesticide use in agriculture are among the areas in which there is to be no change.
