Local authorities to be given pollution consultee role
The Department of the Environment (DoE) has announced plans to make local authorities statutory consultees for applications to operate industrial processes under integrated pollution control (IPC). Separately, Scottish councils will become statutory consultees for processes which they presently control but for which they will lose regulatory responsibility later in the 1990s.
