EC rules on testing of new chemicals implemented

Regulations belatedly implementing new EC rules on the testing and notification of new substances come into force on 31 January.1 They alter the existing pre-market testing regime, oblige the authorities to assess the health and environmental risks of all new substances, provide for reduced animal testing, and require manufacturers to pay the authorities for evaluating their test data.
