Soil protection code keeps farmers in the dark about new waste rules

A code setting out how farmers can avoid long-term damage to soils from agricultural practices and external threats was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) last month.1 But it reveals little about how new waste management rules due to come into force later this year may affect agricultural wastes or the disposal of industrial wastes on farmland.
