Moorlands pass milestone for nitrate acidification

Air pollution by nitrogen oxides has reached levels high enough to saturate UK uplands with nitrate. Soil scientists have found that moorland ecosystems are now unable to use all the nitrate dissolved in rain, and are being acidified by nitrate deposition.1
