First LAWDC prosecution over vole-killing sludge spill

Lancashire Waste Services (LWS) appears to have become the first local authority waste disposal company (LAWDC) to be prosecuted for a pollution offence. The firm was fined £5,000 in January after a spill of more than half a million gallons of sewage sludge polluted the river Ribble.
