Credits yet to make impact on recycling rates

Recycling credits have not yet made a "statistically significant impact" on recycling activity, according to a review for the Department of the Environment (DoE). However, the scheme is believed to have propped up recycling levels at a time of falling secondary material prices and increased collection costs. Recyclers and the DoE are also optimistic that a recent increase in payments will provide a more significant boost to recycling.
