Thermal treatment plant for contaminated soil starts up

Royal Ordnance is commissioning the UK's first thermal treatment plant for soils contaminated with hydrocarbons. Treatment of soil in the mobile unit is more expensive than landfilling - but the company claims that the technology is more competitive when the total costs of remediation are considered, and faster and more reliable than alternatives such as biotreatment or vapour extraction.
